How likely is it that extraterrestrial life is out in our universe?

Sure, Earth is unique by under a serious of coincidences that life did come about, by this point life had been evolved and mass extinctions. These events happened over millions of years. Who knows, maybe other planets out in the universe have had life on it's planet far longer then we have and is move advanced as us, or perhaps life is in the first stages. How likely is it that intelligent, or even non-intelligent life is around us?
